December 26, 2004, a date forever remembered by the people of Aceh Darussalam, Indonesia. Many remnants from the massive 9.2 magnitude earthquake and tsunami can still be seen today if you visit this region known as the "Serambi Makkah".
Recently, IKHLAS Travel had the chance to visit one of the most incredible tsunami relics – a mosque dome stranded in the middle of a rice field, located in Gampong Surah village. Just a few kilometers from Banda Aceh, this 80-ton dome now rests right in the middle of the field.
A Dome from Another Place
This dome originally came from Masjid Lam Tengah, which is located around 2.5 kilometers away from where the dome is now. The mosque itself stood behind a large hill. This event is seen as a miracle and a sign of Allah's power, reminding us that nothing is impossible – as He wills it, "Kun fayakun" (Be, and it is).
According to a local tour guide, the event was witnessed by the village mosque’s imam, who was working on the hill at the time. He saw water coming from all directions. The imam also saw strong waves rushing over the hill and into the rice fields in front of him.

All Happened in Less Than 30 Minutes
The movement of the dome happened in under half an hour. According to the imam, the dome initially circled around the hill, and then was swept away quickly, spinning and eventually landing where it remains today.
