The Aceh Tsunami Museum was built to remember the terrible tsunami that happened on December 26, 2004. It’s also an education center and a place of safety if a tsunami happens again. Don’t worry – it’s located near the city center, just 400 meters from Baiturrahman Mosque. So, it’s easy to plan your next stop!

This beautiful mosque is right in the center of Banda Aceh. It survived the tsunami while most buildings around it were destroyed! During the tsunami, many people took shelter inside the mosque, and it only had minor damage. Its design looks similar to the famous Taj Mahal. So instead of going far, just come to Aceh and see it for yourself!
Did you know? Rahmatullah Mosque was also hit by the tsunami in 2004, but it only had minor cracks and damage. Most of the mosque stayed strong – and it’s just 500 meters from the beach!
After visiting museums and historical mosques, let’s enjoy the beautiful view at Lampuuk Beach, with its mountain backdrop. Many surfers love coming here, and there are also comfortable accommodations nearby. The beach is just 15 km from Banda Aceh city center. The Aceh Museum (also known as Banda Aceh Museum) is the oldest museum in Indonesia. It was built on July 31, 1915, led by F.W. Stammeshaus, and was officially opened by Dutch military governor H.N.A. Swart. Inside, you’ll find 5,328 cultural artifacts and 12,445 books of various genres. Interestingly, this museum started as a traditional Acehnese house!
